Portfolio and mandate reviews

A family's wealth is often held with more than one private bank or asset manager, each reporting in its own format, on its own fees, against a mandate agreed years ago. We review those mandates for you, impartially: what each bank and manager charges, how your portfolio has done against the mandate you gave it, whether the agreed limits are kept, and how clearly they report to you. We do not recommend investments. The licensed bank or manager advises on those.

Marlborough Gulf does not give investment, pension or insurance advice. Regulated services are provided by licensed firms, who contract with you directly.

Your situation

  • Accounts with 2 or 3 banks or managers, and no single view of what the family holds or what it costs.
  • Fees taken in several places: management fees, custody, transaction charges and fund costs, none of them added up.
  • A mandate agreed when the family lived in another country, with goals and limits that no longer match its life.
  • A move to the UAE, a business sale or a new structure that changes what the family needs from its banks.

What the review covers

  1. Costs. Every fee each bank or manager charges, added up and set against what the agreement says.
  2. Performance against your mandate. How the portfolio has done measured against the goals, risk level and benchmark you agreed with the bank, over the same period.
  3. The agreed limits. Whether the bank or manager has kept to the asset mix, currency and risk limits in your mandate.
  4. Reporting. Whether you receive clear, complete and timely statements, and whether they show the whole picture.
  5. Fit with your plan. Whether each mandate still matches where the family lives, how its wealth is held and how it will pass on.

The review states facts and questions to raise. It never says which investments to buy, sell or keep.

What we do

  • We gather the statements, agreements and fee schedules from each bank and manager, with your authority.
  • We set out the findings in one report: costs, performance against the mandate, limits, reporting and fit with your plan.
  • We list the questions to put to each bank or manager, and coordinate the meetings where you put them.
  • Where you decide to change a mandate or open an account elsewhere, we introduce licensed banks and asset managers impartially, and coordinate the move with the rest of your plan.

What a licensed partner does

  • A licensed private bank or asset manager gives investment advice, manages the portfolio and holds the assets. You choose and contract with it directly.
  • A licensed financial adviser advises on any change of investment, where you want advice.

You appoint and contract with each one directly. Under a Full Mandate, we run the whole plan.

Questions people ask

Do you tell me which investments to buy or sell?

No. We review the facts: costs, performance against your own mandate, the agreed limits and reporting. Advice on investments comes from a licensed bank, asset manager or financial adviser.

Do you manage money or hold assets?

No. Your bank or asset manager holds and manages the assets. We review the arrangement on your behalf.

Can you review banks in more than one country?

Yes. The review covers each bank and manager the family uses, wherever they are, and sets them out side by side.
